Somewhere along the way, humans found a way to anchor magic into technology, bringing about the commercialization of once-mystic energies. Little do they know that by doing so, they also created a conduit for the fae and other creatures to migrate into a whole new land...
Come explore a world where programs take on lives of their own and the Unseen hide in lost server spaces. Three short stories give a glimpse to the lives of the Unseen and the human developers-turned-technomancers.
Pixies in the Wires - a pixie fights to protect one of her own from anti-virus programs
Data Center Troubles - the caretaker of a data center must protect his charge from an invasion of imps
Life of a Daemon - a daemon wakens and learns what it truly means to be an Unseen
Tales from the Digital 3 Physical/Digital Stories eBook Renee Cheung
As life became increasingly more technological, magic migrated to the digital world. The fae and other creatures of the Unseen now hide within computers. Tales from the Digital contains three short stories about beings mystical and playful as they had been in sunny meadows and mushrooms circles.Darling Inklebottom fights to save a young pixie in "Pixies in the Wires." She'd learned to hide in abandoned folders, but there's something about her foundling that's attracting man-made bots that will kill her. Seeking help, the deal she makes might be more than she bargained for. Immensely touching with Darling's protectiveness over Moxie.
In "Data Center Troubles," a brownie who likes everything in perfect order finds an old imp in one of his servers. Where one mischievous imp is, there will always be others. I do love the clever way the brownie solves his problem!
A technomancer creates a daemon to help with her program, but it gains sentience in "Life of a Daemon." This is my favorite story in the bunch. I liked seeing how humans interact with the magic inside the Digital. Plus, Moxie returns to befriend Cron the daemon.
This collection is fantasy for a new generation. Still mysterious and full of wonder, but mingled with modern technology. A marvelous quick read!
